Know about AIDS
On the 3rd of February 2012, a program implementation was conducted on the ground of Temasek Polytechnic to increase the awareness on STI and AIDS among students.
The knowledge of the students was tested through questionnaires; pre- and post-evaluation on STI and AIDS. The students get to know more about STI and AIDS through games such as; Human Snake and Ladder and Dart Ball games.
Before the program was implemented, we have minimum knowledge about this topic. However, throughout this program implementation, we learned more about STI and AIDS through reading from journal articles and books, the importance of proper program implementation and the correct way to approach people in order to bring across our message on the awareness of STI and AIDS among youth as this topic is a sensitive and controversial topic.
Time and crowd management are important in order to make sure our program implementation run smoothly. For instance, participants were left to wait before they were able to play the game. Some of the participants even left the booth halfway because of the long waiting time.
Since STI and AIDS are not a big issue in Singapore society, therefore, the students did not find the importance and thus, were not interested in learning more and participating in our program implementation. But it turned out well as we tried to make the programme more lively.
In conclusion, this has given us a good opportunity and exposure to gain experience in implementing programs related to health and wellness of an individual.
